Almost Mugged: A Risky Warmup

A few minutes ago, I almost got mugged. Yes, you read it right, while I was on my way to the gym.

I usually go to Fitness First The Curve on Tuesday mornings to attend TRX Circuit GX class. Typically, I leave 1 First Avenue around 6:15 in the morning because it is still very dark. Earlier, I decided to walk alone around 6:05 AM

Supposedly, I wanted to go back home and sleep because my calves are still sore from running but due to massive intake of nuts earlier, I pushed myself to be active today. Besides, this is my usual Tuesday routine.

A few meters, two to three hundred maybe, before 1 Utama Old Wing Bus terminal, a motorcycle stopped by with two riders on it. I get questions from locals during those times when they ask for directions. And so I was not alerted though I know that mugging has been very rampant recently especially near Pelangi Utama area.

When I realized that the guy who alighted from the bike did not have plans of doing anything good, I immediately formed a fighting stance, ready to risk of getting hurt. I was still confident that time, despite I was carrying a big gym hand bag and a plastic of grocery bag with instant oats and skimmed milk inside. I know that I could beat the hell out of him since the other guy stayed on his bike ready to drift off if they successfully get my things from me. Also, the guy who approached me was smaller in built and height. I am so ready to do a hand combat.

“WHAT?!”, I shouted.

Until a new bike stopped counterflowing the lane. I will not forget that fat dark-skinned man driving the other bike – he seems like Indian, no racism intended. The other rider is thin, actually the three muggers are, definitely not Malays nor Chinese.

With much caffeine running through my veins, I swiftly ran towards the bus terminal with an overdose of adrenaline inside me. I heard them revving their bikes and drove afar.

I quickly walked towards my usual path thanking all the odds, the Guy above, my guardian angel and my training – for it has helped me build this physique and conditioned a swift run even though my soleus muscles are still in mild pain.

But then, I saw two motorbikes parked near the tunnel juxtaposed to Ikea. IT WAS THEM! They were all now wearing their helmets – full helmets; trying their best to hide their faces from me. I stood a few feet afar and I spent a minute staring at their faces. I am very sure that it was them because I positively identified the fat Indian guy in full beard. The bike of the riders who first approached me was mildly damaged. I guess it scared them off and the driver lost his balance while I was running away. Besides, there was a nearby golf range nearby where I can ask for immediate help.

Lesson learned: I will still walk towards the same path, but I will follow the later time. Why? Because students walk the same road which is in front of the golf area is a school. Also, around 6:30 AM, the park before the golf course area starts to get brighter as the sun rises around that time.

Good thing Vange did not come with me. Or else… I will end up bruised, with no bag or I could have beaten out of them; and Vange, screaming her lungs out for help.

I wish them no harm as I believe in karma- good and bad.

I have to go. I am late for the TRX class. Be safe everyone!

Henry Cook at SS2 Mall

Recently, I have been roaming around the city looking for new restaurants to dine in before work. I have been on strict diet for the past few months and I could take some gastronomic indulge once in a while.

And so I arrived at SS2 Mall – convenient, because around the mall and even the covered parking are free of charge. Except the valet service which is ridiculously high at 6 RM! There’s not much people here as the mall is new. Its Marketing staff needs to pump up some events here or else the possible near-residential-convenient-shopping place will die soon.

Henry Cook is located at the Lower Ground of the mall near the restaurants adjacent to the shopping kiosks. As you walk around the paved area, you will not miss it because it has one of the striking interiors viewable from the outside.

Chili and Kitchen

Majority of the food crew are Filipinos so it is not really hard for me to converse and take my orders :D. Although when you are inside, just be cautious on how you would smell. They have an open kitchen in an air conditioned room. I stayed there for more than an hour but it really didn’t affect the smell of my clothes. Though this is just an assumption, that when they’re fully packed, I bet that the smell from the food might stick to your shirt.

Lamps and Post Its

The room is lit with hard tungsten lighting and most of the furniture are from Ikea. I actually didn’t think that when you combine Ikea products in one place, they’d actually look good! Magazines are near the couches and some playing cards are placed on the steel shelves.

Now to the food.

Chicken Kebab and Yellow Fragrant Rice

They have mainly beef and chicken on the menu. The sauce has a distinct Turkish/Persian feel that I have never tried with other restaurants before. The meat goes well with it! Also, the chili is not the typical chili that you could find in Malaysian restaurants. I actually liked it!

Chicken Roll and Potatoes

What surprised me is that this dish comes with green salad underneath the chicken roll and yet, it is also served with cucumber, red beans and some cold mayo dressing. I just though it is too much for someone who is expecting that he would be eating an omnivorous meal. Nevertheless, the meat is good. Maybe, if I chose the fragrant rice, it would have been better. Not that I am saying that the potato isn’t good, it is just too vegetarian when combined with the green and cucumber salads.

Chocolate Fudge with Vanilla Ice Cream

But of course, the dessert. Sadly, the chocolate fudge wasn’t nice. It was warm when it was served, which is supposedly be warm. Its just that the cake was too dry. It could have been inside the fridge nearing its shelf life. I always look forward for desserts, you know. The two main dishes were okay especially the kebab sauce but it just failed on the dessert. Maybe next time, it will be better.

Buka Puasa at Hotel Armada, PJ

The team had its bi-annual team outing through eating. Malaysians have this festive season after their fasting that they usually go to buffet restaurants to eat and celebrate.

We have decided to finish it off at Hotel Armada because it is one of the cheapest yet nearest places near the office.

The food choices are wide. From traditional Malay main courses, to Chinese noodles, Indian cuisine and some western mixture for desserts.

This is better compared to the buffet I had before at Nelayan at the Titiwangsa Park. Not to mention that they have wide choices of food, but the ambience is classy because it is in a hotel. Friendly hotel staff will assist you, in case you wanted something out of the buffet menu.

The price is far cheap compared to the relative hotels around Petaling Jaya. The price is 60-75 RM ++ per person, depends on which day you want to dine in.
